Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom PRINCE’S EDITION (Nintendo Switch)

Publisher: BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment

What I Paid: $12.79

Verdict: Not Shovelware. More than 100 hours.

What I Say: You play as King Evan, a youthful king who is quickly usurped. You need to establish a new kingdom, unite the world and defeat the BIG BAD.

There are many diverse systems on offer in this game, all quite quickly introduced. You have your standard party-building and equipment-buffing, but in addition to that you also have to take care of city building and army fighting. It’s initially quite confusing and jarring to move between mechanics, but as you progress it all makes more and more sense.

The Nintendo Switch isn’t the best platform to experience this game. Framerates frequently struggle, particularly during a poorly-thought-out midgame arcade sequence (you’ll see). Once I’d completed this game on the Switch, I replayed it on my Xbox Series X at a harder difficulty level – this was a much better graphical experience (4K resolution and much less issues with framerate).

What They Say:

Lose yourself in the ultimate Ni no Kuni experience with this Prince’s Edition including:

  • Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (full game)
  • Expansions that add hours of additional gameplay
  • Prince’s Equipment Pack

Join the young king, Evan, as he sets out on an epic quest to found a new kingdom, unite his world, and save its people from a terrible evil.

Embark on this unforgettable adventure, which blurs the line between animated feature film and video game. Developed by LEVEL-5, Ni no Kuni II features enchanting character design from the legendary artist Yoshiyuki Momose and a stirring soundtrack composed by the world-famous Joe Hisaishi.
