What I Paid: $0.00 (part of the Casual Puzzles Bundle 8 in 1 which I paid $5.39 for)

Verdict: Not Shovelware. Made by Unity Logo. Doesn’t Support Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. 100% Completed.

What I Say:

Jewel Match is a mobile port with little consideration given to playability on the Nintendo Switch. It can only be played in handheld mode and is vertically oriented. There is no menu screen, just the solitary path to 50 levels.

Fundamentally this is a Match 3 game with a little twist – maximizing your score is done by matching many more than 3 at a time. Somewhat perversely, the game penalizes you for finishing a level with less moves: to get 3 stars for a level you need to complete the level’s objectives within a certain number of moves AND amass a sufficiently high score from those moves. Sometimes this means you need to delay completing the level whilst making matches to boost your score.

I was initially going to call this Shovelware, but in the end it kept me sufficiently entertained for around 6 hours or so before I 3-starred all the levels, so it avoids that ignominy.

What They Say:

Jewel Match is a funny line match game where you match all the same obstacles in a line to remove them and let the jewel hit the dotted line. The simple line match mechanic and plenty of variety keeps the game interesting and fun for all ages !
