Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride (Nintendo Switch 2)

Publisher: Artifex Mundi

What I Paid: $2.25

Verdict: Not Shovelware.

What I Say:

This is a fairly typical entry into the Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure genre. A few things differentiate it: there is an unusual kitten mechanic involved in solving some of the puzzles, and the story is better than is typical for this genre (albeit very reminiscent of many features found in the Harry Potter universe).

The mini-games tend on the hard side; I needed to skip one unlock puzzle which didn’t seem to work properly, and the method by which an inventory item is set alight gave me all sorts of grief towards the end of the game, but overall I enjoyed the game and am looking forward to looking at the other entries in this series.

They surround the village with countless charms to keep the evil spirits at bay, for on the other side of the forest, there lies a seemingly bottomless pit, known as the Abyss. It is the place the villagers of Ravenbrook fear most…

On this night, a young woman is returning home for her twin sister’s wedding. The sisters haven’t seen each other in years. Yet the invitation was strange, almost as if someone else wrote it, other than her twin. But still she comes, ignorant of the danger that awaits…

For just before the wedding, amidst the happiness and reverie, a stranger arrived in Ravenbrook…
