Tales of the Orient – The Rising Sun (Nintendo Switch)

Publisher: JoinDots

What I Paid: $5.99

Verdict: Not Shovelware. 100%ed it.

What I Say:

This is fundamentally a match-3 game with a few rather interesting twists which sets it aside from the vast majority of me-too match-3 games out there.

Firstly, it supports moving the pointer with the controller I use (the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller). Very few games support the motion sensing features of this controller.

Secondly, it supports rotating the game board to assist in making matches.

The nett result is a decent match-3 game which kept me going until I 100%ed it, despite the ridiculously hokey opening sequence.

Incidentally, the mechanics of this game led to a rather interesting outcome for Game 38 (see the last screenshot below – no power-ups were used, just the inbuilt rotation and reshuffle mechanics).

What They Say:

Prove your skills in Challenge mode with limited moves. Experience the excitement of building an ancient Japanese village in this engaging Match 3 game.

See the beautiful scenery while listening to relaxing music inspired by this period in Japanese history. Dive into an epic story of honor and courage and help a Geisha and a Samurai save the day in Tales of the Orient: The Rising Sun!

Three game play modes: swap, pop, chain
